Asphyxiate is the best choice in this tier. Unholy Death Knights do not have any crowd control. This talent gives you a ranged stun that is useful for setting up crowd control on enemies.

If you are playing against a team with two caster DPS on it, Spell Eater is the best choice in this tier. This makes your Anti-Magic Shell even more powerful. This talent is crucial for surviving against casters.
In any other situation, Wraith Walk is the best choice in this tier. Wraith Walk can be used in many different situations. You can use it aggressively, to chase after an enemy, or you can use it defensively, to kite away from incoming damage if you are being focused. Epidemic is the best choice in this tier. This ability greatly increases your spread pressure. Unholy Frenzy is the best choice in this tier.
This gives you a solid on-demand burst cooldown. This helps your burst damage by increasing your Haste and your auto attacks have a chance to put a Festering Wound on your target. Gladiator's Medallion is the best choice in this tier. It is great for removing crowd control on you that your healer cannot dispel. Necrotic Strike is a vicious strike that deals Plague damage, and converts 1 Festering Wound into a Necrotic Wound, absorbing healing received by the target.
This is a mandatory talent. Necrotic Strike is an ability that will help you apply a lot of pressure to the enemy team. If you are using Conflict and Strife as your Major essence Conflictthis ability will be baseline and you will not have to talent into it. Continue down the list to see what other choices you should choose. This is great for consistent and spread pressure. Raise Abomination gives you another cooldown you can use in your burst rotation.
This is a great ability to use versus teams that cannot run away from it, such as teams with a melee on it. However, you should not use this against teams with multiple slows or roots.
Classes like Mages can root your Abomination in place and this will deal no damage.Last Jump to page:. December 23, Unholy Death Knight's PvP 3. Talents and Glyphs. Gear - Gemming and Enchanting. PVP Unholy Death Knight Guide (WotLK 3.3.5a)
Bump :. Appreciate it :. December 24, Edited: December 24, December 25, It's an absolutely nice guide, it has what we all want to read. By the way, there's a question that has kept me on unease for a long time. I do know Arp is almost useless for UnholyDKs, but so does expertise. Tl;dr; Some days ago when I was playing arenas, I felt I was getting parried more than the usual, I was thinking why was that happening.
At the end, I decided to get some expertise in my build just so that doesn't happen again, it didn't happen again since. Originally Posted by Drakantas. Edit: Yeah, sorry, I presented it in PvE terms, but the theory behind it remains the same.
To add, expertise is even better when you need to Death Strike for survivability. Amazing guide comrade! Really well done! Originally Posted by Zedarus. Additional notes: -in 2v2 against paladin warriors you might want to use HoP on gargoyle to make sure you force cds or land kill. Makes it very easy to heal you against them. Frost presence on trinket procs or you die.In this guide, you will learn about playing an Unholy Death Knight in the arena or a battleground.
It has to be timed properly and can sacrifice your pet so be careful with it. Wandering Plague is mostly taken for Battlegrounds because it just works better with multiple targets.
Still a viable choice. The first two are mandatory. Gems are situational and depend on the build and equipment. They are used to reach the required stat caps. Add-ons improve your gameplay by a lot. Skip to content. Spells and Tips Summon Gargoyle — Your Gargoyle scales from your stats when summoned, so be sure to summon it when fully buffed and with procs. Gargoyle attacks the same target as Ghoul. Anti-Magic Shell — Can be used defensive and offensive.
You can start the fight against casters with it, just use Horn of Winter, Death and Decay 2 seconds before the fight. Use this in situations when you are about to get burst down. Horn of Winter — Gives Agility and Strenght. Grants additional 10 Runic power. This has to be up all the time. Keep in mind, you have to use it before the crowd-control, as it is not usable when you are already, feared for example. Also, you might want to cancel the effect sometimes, because paladins will be able to use fear on you, as you will be considered as undead.
Empower Rune Weapon — Re-activates all runes and grants 25 Runic power. Use this after your first rotation and afterwards, you can use Gargoyle to start bursting. When you see a spell cast — you have 4 options to interrupt it: Mind Freeze — This is good against healers as it prevents 4 seconds of that school from being cast.Unholy Blight Melts - Unholy Death Knight PvP - WoW BFA 8.3
Death Grip — Keep in mind, that this spell can be used to save your teammate from a bad situation where he is focused. Gnaw — your pet stuns.
Strangulate Add-ons Add-ons improve your gameplay by a lot. Team Setups Here is a list of preferable partners in the 2v2 and 3v3 arena.Forgot your password? Azerite Traits and Essences, introduced in Battle for Azeroth, need to be chosen correctly, to ensure optimal performance.

Before reading this page, you should have a good understanding of the PvP playstyle of an Unholy Death Knight. So we advise you to read our dedicated page on the subject.
The Crucible of Flame is a great essence, overall. This gives you, Concentrated Flameanother ranged ability that will be useful in helping you kill enemies quickly. At Rank 3, you get 2 charges of the ability that will allow you to deal a large amount of damage in a short window of time. Conflict and Strife 's major power, Conflictgrants us Necrotic Strike as a baseline ability. Necrotic Strike is the most important ability that Unholy Death Knights have. Because this frees up a PvP talent spot, you will be be able to take other situational talents like Dark Simulacrum.
The damage is okay, but you primarily want it for the damage increase. StrifeConflict and Strife 's minor power, provides a stacking Versatility buff every time you get put into crowd control. This is very strong versus teams that will be primarily focusing you. Concentrated Flame gives you the passive Ancient Flame.
This is great for increasing your damage as you will frequently be refunded Runes throughout a match. Breath of the Dying grants the minor ability Lethal Strikes. This will increase your overall damage output and also help with your survivability.
Azerite traits are unlocked in you helm, shoulders and chest. With each Azerite level in your neck, you get closer to unlocking the center trait in your gear. These traits vary from increasing damage or healing of certain abilities to helping increase your survivability. Depending on what traits you use, it can completely alter your playstyle and what talents you should be using.
For more information about Azerite traits and your Heart of Azeroth, please refer to our dedicated guide. Unholy Death Knights do not depend on one single trait to increase their damage. Instead, they want a mix of the above traits. Festermight increases your primary stat, Strength.
This is an increase to your overall damage.Only use Pestilence in case of extremely big AoE Pulls. Infected Claws : Increases your wound generation significantly. During Dark Transformation the pet will apply festering wound s to all targets in front of it. Especially powerful in combination with Bursting Sores and 3x Festermight. All Will Serve : The best single target option in this row. The skeletal minion also has an AoE component in the form of Skulker Shot. Its only redeeming factor is the 30yd range which could potentially find use in a raid encounter which requires it.
Bursting Sores : Causes your wounds to trigger a secondary explosion to all other targets when burst. You do not actually need to press outbreak twice as often when picking this talent to apply the disease, as the 6 second duration of outbreak stays unaffected.
Unholy Blight : 45s Cooldown that applies an additional dot to all targets around you for 6s that does not synergise with your other spells. Generally never picked. Unholy Blight is never used. The fact that the slow is tied to your Death and Decay makes it a good talent to ensure that the targets you want to hit will stay in or near your Death and Decay. You cannot really use the slow for other purposes, such as on demand kite utility, as you need Death and Decay to deal your damage.
Death's Reach : Decent range increase on Death Gripgenerally more of a Leveling Talent, although it can have uses in raid encounters where grip is useful. Asphyxiate : 4s stun on a 45s cooldown with 20yd range.
Very situational row, pick based on what the raid encounter or the dungeon needs. If there is a lot of AoE and your tank likes to kite enemies out of your Death and Decay pick Grip of the Dead to counter him! Currently Gargoyle is not a favorable pick so this talent is not a good choice.
Soulreaper : The DoT it applies is pretty weak, but the talent is mainly picked for the 2 runes it generates on use.Forgot your password? If you play with Warmode on, we have your PvP talents covered as well.
Talents can be freely changed when out of combat and in a rested XP area such as an inn or a capital city. Moreover, Tome of the Tranquil Mind and Codex of the Tranquil Mind can be used to temporarily allow players to change talents anywhere, as long as they are out of combat.
Infected Claws is currently a viable choice for most AoE situations, due to the cleave ability of your ghoul applying Festering Wound s to multiple targets. This has good synergy with the talent Bursting Sores and the ability Death and Decay. Clawing Shadows is an interesting choice because it turns your Scourge Strike into a 30 yard range ability, which can help if you are away from the target very frequently.
All Will Serve is the best single target choice currently, however it does add value to AoE situations.
Unholy Death Knight PvP Azerite Traits and Essences (BfA / Patch 8.3)
Currently, the Risen Skulker that is summoned when this is talented attacks the target near your focus. Ebon Fever is currently the best option for single-target situations. It does require you to spend more Runes during a fight on refreshing Virulent Plaguehowever the damage this provides is very powerful. Unholy Blight is behind Ebon Fever for single target currently by quite a bit. This talent never sees play currently.
None of the talents in this tier improve your DPS, but they still have a lot of potential usefulness. Grip of the Dead should be used if you are in need of a slow. This effect decreases over the duration of Death and Decaymeaning your Death and Decay will slow the enemies standing in it for the entirety of the duration although not by much by the end. Death's Reach is a comfortable pick for fights that require you to control adds using your Death Grip Aggramar for instance.
Pestilent Pustules is currently the easiest option and is competitive with Soul Reaperhowever it is more RNG-reliant, making it a little bit more frustrating to play with. Soul Reaper is a great option and can lead to more damage single target than Pestilent Pustulesit allows you to gain resources on-demand, which is great when you are out of Runes and Runic Power. You can also choose to use this on a target that is about to die to gain the Haste buff.
Harbinger of Doom is currently not as strong as the other 2 talents in this tier. The talents in this tier do not increase your DPS either, but they can provide you with great benefits during raid encounters. They are quite situational, so you will have to choose based on the requirements of the fight. Spell Eater is the preferred choice in fights with large amounts of magic damage, allowing you to survive if you make a mistake, to soak the damage of certain abilities, or to avoid certain mechanics altogether.
Wraith Walk is a great movement speed cooldown that, if chosen, gives you a second movement speed cooldown along with Death's Advance.
Currently, Pestilence is the best option for single target fights.
Playing this talent will require you to cast Death and Decay in a single target setting where the target will not move out of your Death and Decay. If you expect the target to move when you would cast Death and Decay, you should hold off on casting it. If you are running this talent then you would replace Death Coil with Epidemic when there are 2 or more targets.
This is also the best choice on any fight where adds or cleave is present at all. For single target situations it is close to Pestilence, making it a viable option. Currently, Unholy Frenzy is the best option for both single target and AoE fights. Beyond that, it cannot compare to Unholy Frenzy currently. Summon Gargoyle is currently not as strong as the other 2 options.
If this talent sims close to Unholy Frenzy and you enjoyed the Dark Arbiter playstyle of Legion then you can try playing this talent.
The essence Conflict and Strife grants you the PvP talent Necrotic Strikewhich currently does not have any use in open world content. This page will be updated if a use for this is ever discovered.
In Battle for Azeroth, there will be the option to go into "War Mode". Enabling War Mode provides the following benefits:.Forgot your password? We give you a stat priority to help you choose items with the right stats as well as guidance on how to pick up your Azerite pieces, followed by advice on how to choose the rest of your gear and your trinkets.
Strength is the best stat in all situations. Haste is the strongest secondary stat at all times due to it reducing the Global Cooldown on abilities and increasing your attack speed. Versatility is also important because it not only reduces the damage you take, but it increases how much healing you do.
This is crucial for when you use Death Strike. Gear has a chance to get a Corruption effect on them. This Corruption can have 2 different affects: dealing damage or increasing one of your stats. The more Corruption to have, the more damage you will take from the Corruption effects. It is recommended to not have more than 40 Corruption at once or you will take too much damage and die quickly. Corruptions that deal damage proc from your damaging abilities. Although you do not have a choice on when they proc, most of them proc often and can make up a large amount of your overall damage.
Below are the best Corruptions to have that will deal damage from using your abilities. Corruptions that increase Stats are also extremely powerful. These Corruptions also have two different variations. The first is a proc chance to gain a stat. This is just like any other proc, where you will randomly get a buff that greatly increases one of your stats. The second, is you receive a certain stat from any source.
This means you can gain that stat from anything from gear to traits. These stat increases are much more powerful to have. Below are the best Corruptions that increase your stats.
In general, Unholy Knights want to get trinkets that line up well with Apocalypse or Raise Abomination.
